Definition
Worsted spinning is a production facility or spinning process used to manufacture very fine, smooth, and uniform yarns known as worsted yarns. The defining characteristic is the combing of fibers: short fibers are removed and the remaining long fibers are aligned in parallel. This produces particularly fine and uniform yarns.
Use in the textile industry
Worsted yarns are used for high-quality, smooth fabrics such as fine suiting fabrics, high-end knitted goods, and smooth wool qualities. Compared to woolen spinning, the process requires greater effort, but the result is finer, stronger, and more uniform.
