Definition
Thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) are polymers that are flexible and durable, and that soften and become moldable when heated. They combine the elasticity of rubber with the processability of plastics. In the textile sector, they are widely used to make textiles weatherproof and long-lasting.
Use in the textile industry
TPU is used, for example, as a coating or membrane in waterproof and breathable performance clothing, in footwear, and in technical textiles. Its excellent abrasion resistance and elasticity make it a versatile material for demanding applications.
