Definition
A staple fiber yarn is a linear structure made from staple fibers joined into a continuous strand by a spinning process that applies twist. The twist provides the necessary fiber cohesion and thus the tensile strength of the yarn. Staple fiber yarns are produced from both natural fibers and cut man-made fibers.
Use in the textile industry
Staple fiber yarns form the basis for a large proportion of apparel textiles and home textiles. Properties such as hand, strength, luster, and absorbency can be precisely controlled through fiber selection, yarn count, and twist level.
