Rotary blade

Definition

Rotary blades are circular cutting tools made of metal. In the textile industry, they are used for the automated cutting of textile fabrics and leather. The blades rotate at high speed through the material, enabling precise cuts.

Use in the textile industry

Rotary blades are used in computer-controlled cutting systems to efficiently and accurately cut woven fabrics, nonwovens, technical textiles, and leather in large plies. Due to their rotating cutting motion, they are especially suitable for straight and curved cutting lines as well as for densely stacked material plies. They are used in the apparel industry as well as in the upholstery and automotive supply sectors.

A rotary blade cuts material through a continuous rolling motion along a cutting line, making it particularly suitable for flexible, curved contours and for use in automated cutting systems. A die cutter, by contrast, cuts material by applying vertical pressure onto a fixed cutting contour and is preferred for the series production of uniform shaped parts. The two methods therefore differ in flexibility, tooling requirements, and typical application area.
