Definition
Roll goods are textile fabrics manufactured as a continuous, endless web during production and subsequently wound onto tubes or cores. The material is stored and transported in this form and unwound from the roll during further processing. Typical roll goods include woven fabrics, knitted fabrics, nonwovens, films, and coatings; the width is determined by the respective production equipment.
Use in the textile industry
Roll goods are the most common delivery form for semi-finished textile materials in garment manufacturing, technical textile processing, and home textile production, as they enable continuous machine processing without frequent interruptions. In cutting and garment manufacturing operations, the web is laid off the roll onto cutting tables and divided into defined cut parts. Roll goods are also standard in coating, laminating, and bonding processes, because roll-to-roll equipment ensures an efficient, uninterrupted material flow.
