Definition
The ring spinning machine is a spinning machine used to produce staple fiber yarns. It drafts the roving, drawing it out 15 to 80 times its original thickness, and binds the fibers into a strong yarn by twisting. Ring spinning remains the most widely used spinning method and is especially suited for very fine yarns.
Use in the textile industry
Ring-spun yarns are considered particularly uniform and strong and are used for high-quality apparel and home textiles. Until the 1960s, nearly all staple fiber yarns were produced by ring spinning; today it still accounts for approximately 80 percent of production.
