Polar polymers

Definition

Polar polymers are plastics that have an uneven charge distribution within their molecules. This enables them to interact more readily with other substances or to adhere to them.

Use in the textile industry

In the textile industry, polar polymers such as polyamide and polyester are used as fiber and film materials, since their polar structure provides good affinity for dyes, finishing agents, and coatings. They can also be bonded, laminated, or treated with functional finishing chemicals more effectively than nonpolar polymers. This property is particularly relevant in the production of technical textiles, membranes, and coated woven fabrics.
