Definition
MOY (Medium Oriented Yarn) is a partially drawn man-made filament yarn in which the molecular chains exhibit a medium degree of orientation — greater than that of POY (Partially Oriented Yarn) but less than that of the fully drawn FOY (Fully Oriented Yarn). It is produced by melt spinning at moderate take-up speeds followed by partial drawing. Due to its intermediate crystalline structure, MOY has limited dimensional stability and is therefore not typically designed as a finished product, but rather as an intermediate for further processing steps.
Use in the textile industry
MOY is used primarily as an intermediate product in man-made fiber manufacturing and serves as a feedstock for downstream drawing or texturing processes. Its medium orientation allows further processing within a defined range — for example, into textured or high-tenacity yarns for technical textiles or apparel fabrics. It is found mainly in integrated spin-draw systems in which the processing stages are directly coordinated with one another.
