Definition
A folded yarn is produced when two or more single yarns are brought together in parallel (folded) without being twisted around each other. Folding is frequently a preparatory step before twisting, in which the combined yarns are subsequently twisted together. Combining multiple yarns in this way increases strength and evenness.
Use in the textile industry
Folded and subsequently twisted yarns are used for applications that require particularly high strength or uniformity, such as sewing and embroidery threads, plied yarns, or technical textiles. The number of yarns combined affects the count, appearance, and processability of the final product.
