Filament yarn

Definition

A filament yarn is a yarn composed of one or more filaments — that is, continuous strands — that may be twisted or untwisted. Because the individual strands run continuously along the entire length of the yarn, filament yarns are very uniform and smooth. They can be processed into textile fabrics by fabric-forming methods such as weaving or knitting.

Use in the textile industry

Filament yarns are used for fabrics that are lustrous, smooth, and tear-resistant, such as lining fabrics, sportswear, functional apparel, and technical textiles. Through texturizing, increased bulk, stretch, and a more textile-like hand can be achieved.
