Definition
FDY (Fully Drawn Yarn) is a synthetic filament yarn that has been completely drawn and oriented during the manufacturing process, so that no subsequent drawing is required. It is typically produced from polyester or polyamide by melt spinning at high take-up speeds with integrated drawing. The resulting yarn is characterized by uniform filament fineness, high tenacity, and stable mechanical properties.
Use in the textile industry
FDY is used in weaving and knitting for woven and knitted fabrics that require a uniform surface and good dimensional stability, such as lining fabrics, sportswear, and technical textiles. Due to its low residual shrinkage and uniform dyeability, it is particularly suitable for applications where reproducible quality is required. It can be further processed both as a flat yarn and as a textured yarn.
