Definition
DTY (Draw Textured Yarn) is a textured filament yarn made from synthetic polymers, produced by a combined drawing and texturing process. In this process, a partially oriented pre-feed yarn (POY – Partially Oriented Yarn) is simultaneously drawn and crimped using the false-twist method, giving the yarn a permanent, three-dimensional crimp morphology. The result is a voluminous, elastic yarn with a soft hand, characterized by increased extensibility and recovery. DTY is predominantly manufactured from polyester and, less commonly, from polyamide or other synthetic fibers.
Use in the textile industry
DTY is widely used in the production of knitted and warp-knitted fabrics, including sportswear, hosiery, underwear, and home textiles such as velour and plush fabrics. Due to its elasticity and voluminous character, it is particularly suited for woven fabrics and knitted fabrics that require wearing comfort, dimensional stability, and a soft hand. The uniform crimp morphology and adjustable yarn count allow a broad variation of fabric properties depending on processing parameters.
